Chinese Documentary Festival 
‘The village self-governance’ was utterly fascinating. 很有一色。One question I have which relates to the other sessions is how much freedom of choice of marriage partner is restricted in the countryside because of poverty.
One book I think relevant to women’s liberation in China is Christina Gilmartin’s 1995 ‘Engendering the
Chinese Revolution: Radical Women, Communist Politics and Mass Movements in the 1920s. I think this period of turbulence more interesting than the 19thC or Republican era.
